U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed on Thursday his intention to travel to Argentina "very soon" in a message posted on the social media platform X (ex Twitter). The U.S. official praised President Javier Milei's "monumental victory" at the polls and urged global markets to "be enthusiastic" about Argentina's reforms, describing them as "the country's last chance to break with decades of poor economic management."

In his post, Bessent linked the upcoming visit to the "Peace Through Strength" policy promoted by President Donald Trump, stating that this strategy will "transform Latin America."

President Milei responded immediately on the same platform, expressing his pleasure at the confirmation and his willingness to deepen bilateral cooperation.

This would be the second official visit by Bessent to Buenos Aires in 2025. The first took place on April 14, when he met with Milei and Economy Minister Luis Caputo, and reiterated Washington's "full support" for fiscal adjustment, deregulation, and trade opening reforms.

In September 2025, the Trump administration granted Argentina a $20 billion currency swap and commitments to purchase dollar-denominated sovereign bonds, measures aimed at bolstering the Central Bank's reserves and supporting the stabilization plan.

Official sources indicate that while an exact date has not yet been set, the visit could take place in late October or early November, with an agenda focused on reciprocal trade, investments in critical minerals (such as lithium), and consolidation of the liberal agenda in the region.

The announcement comes immediately after the electoral victory of Javier Milei in the mid-term legislative elections, which consolidated popular support for his economic reform program.

During that occasion, he also held meetings with Argentine business leaders and representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham).

The imminent trip is set against a backdrop of strengthening bilateral economic ties.
